The Congolese government finally announces the issuance of biometric identity cards during this year 2023.
It took more than three decades for the Congolese to obtain identity cards. Since the second Republic with President Mobutu Seseko who had granted cards for citizens, the generation of Kabila has not been able to satisfy its population or identify it.
The determined Sama Lukonde government announces that the first identity cards will be issued in the Democratic Republic of Congo in mid-2023.
At the meeting of the Council of Ministers this Friday, April 14, the Head of Government stressed that preparations for the realization of this important axis of his government’s action program are continuing. The head of government drew the attention of all the processes of pooling operations, namely the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the National Office for Population Identification (ONIP), the Central Bureau of Census (BCR ) as well as the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The Congolese government is more than determined to carry out this civic duty towards its people, then will follow the delivery of driving licenses, which for thirteen months, on all the national expanse, the drivers drive all type of vehicles illegally because the last driver’s license expired on March 31, 2022.
