During a press briefing held in Kinshasa on Thursday (January 3rd), Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, metropolitan archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Kinshasa, lashed out at the Passivity of Monusco in the massacres in eastern DRC.
Recently returned from a four-day pastoral visit to Beni-Butembo, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo noted ambiguity in Monusco's actions in the massacres in the east of the country, which he said were aimed at Balkanizing the DRC.
"Behind Monusco is the ambiguity of the international community. It's not clear what the international community is playing in the east," he said.
Before adding: "The people do not trust the Monusco at all for the simple reason, next to the Monusco facilities, people are slaughtered. The main mission of Monusco is to protect the civilian population. There is a negative perception of the population in the head of Monusco."
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo also called on the central government to initiate concrete actions to stop the bleeding in the east.
