Recently returned from the east of the Republic, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo was this Friday, January 03 in front of journalists at a press conference. According to the Catholic prelate, it is not time to celebrate Year 1 of alternation while there are civilian populations being massacred in Beni, Butembo and its surroundings.
"You cannot celebrate Year 1 of the democratic alternation with the critical power, while in eastern DRC people are dying. We must be in communion with them," said Fridolin Ambongo.
Moreover, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kinshasa warns of the risk of Balkanization of the DRC, which he says remains a real plan and risks being realized if we do not take care of it.
He also said that he had noticed during his tour that populations of Rwandophone and Gandophone origin were being dumped in the east and occupying fields and houses abandoned by indigenous people fleeing war.
"It's remarkable when you're on the field. The observation shows very clearly that the aim of all these behaviours is the balkanization of our country," he added.
He added: "This is true by replacing displaced populations with generally Rwandan- or Gando-speaking populations and it is complicated, because we have a border not of the natural type."
It is worth recalling that this press conference is part of the restitution of the cardinal's tour in North Kivu from 27 to 30 December. He placed his journey under the signs of peace.
