At a press briefing held late on Monday evening in the city of Beni, Leon Richard Kasonga, spokesman for the Armed Forces of the DRC, thanked the population for their frank cooperation with the security forces in the hunt against the rebels.
« We sincerely thank the people of Beni, Butembo and Lubero for their unwavering support to the FARDC in conducting the operations that led the armed forces to win all the fighting, » the FARDC spokesman said.
He also said that the army is in the midst of a sweep to allow more than 28,000 inhabitants easy access to their fields.
« We have put a new early warning system with the base chiefs and it is thanks to the latter that an ADF attack was foiled by the loyalist army, but unfortunately 2 soldiers fell on the field of honour, » he added.
It should be noted that all the political leaders who trod their feet in Beni were still seeking collaboration between the FARDC and the public. Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, metropolitan archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Kinshasa, is the last on the list to make this call.
