Hours after landing in Beni as part of a pastoral visit on Friday, December 27, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Kinshasa, visited Mayimoya, Beni territory comfort the civilian population that has been the victim of repeated massacres.
In his address to the population, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo called on him to work with the security and defence services to put the enemy that is gnawing at the Beni region out of harm's way.
Sources close to the situation say that Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo's pastoral visit to the Beni region is about sympathizing with this population long bruised by the atrocities committed by the Ugandan ADF rebels. A mass of "peace" was announced within hours in the walls of the parish of Saint Teresa of Avila of Beni City.
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo was greeted at Beni-Mavivi airport by the Bishop of the Diocese of Butembo-Beni, Paluku Sikuli and the Governor of North Kivu Province, Carly Nzanzu Kasivita.
